Buffalo Bayou carves a deeply incised path along the southern edge of this landscape, its steep banks contrasting with the flat prairie to the north. Surveyed shortly before the 1918 publication, this area of western Harris County is defined by the early transport corridors that would eventually shape the Houston metropolitan expansion. The Missouri Kansas and Texas Railroad and the Houston and Texas Central Railroad traverse the terrain, anchoring small settlements like Hillendahl and Fairbanks.
