The Talladega National Forest dominates the southern half of this landscape, where the ridges of Horseblock Mtn and Ivory Mtn provide significant vertical relief. These highlands are bisected by the Pinhoti National Recreation Trail, which winds through Abel Gap before continuing north toward the boundary of Oxford. The mapping reveals a transition from the structured residential outskirts of the city to the rural communities and forest lands of Cleburne and Calhoun Counties.

Water plays a central role in the local geography, with numerous named impoundments such as Abel Lake, Gold Mine Lakes, and Creighton Number 2 Lake dotting the valley floors. These reservoirs and the drainage of Chulafinnee Cr supported the development of small settlements like Chulafinnee and Hollis Crossroads. The road network, including the Skyway Mtwy, follows the natural contours of the land, connecting remote mountain gaps to the older settlement sites and the Bethlehem Cem.
