About this map

The Solano and Contra Costa County boundary follows the tidal reaches of Honker Bay and the Sacramento Valley, where a complex network of marshes and islands meets the industrial corridor of the East Bay. The urban landscape of Pittsburg and Bay Point is defined by a dense residential grid and significant infrastructure, including the Mokelumne Aqueduct and Contra Costa Canal. To the south, the terrain rises into the Diablo Range, while to the north, the landscape dissolves into a massive labyrinth of wetlands and sloughs, such as Montezuma Slough and Howard Slough, which weave around Simmons Island, Wheeler Island, and Hammond Island. Small, historically industrial or maritime outposts like Nichols, McAvoy, and Chipps sit along the waterfront, illustrating the transition from the developed San Joaquin Valley floor to the protected estuarine environments of Suisun Bay.
