Hopeville sits at the base of Hopeville Gap where Broad Run and Samuel Run join the North Fork South Branch Potomac River. This high-altitude landscape is defined by the sharp rise of the Allegheny Front, marking the transition into the Dolly Sods Wilderness and Monongahela National Forest. The geography here is a complex arrangement of ridges and narrow valleys, including Kimble Ridge and North Fork Mountain, which hem in the river as it flows toward the small settlement of Ketterman in the southeast.
