Pumpkin Cr and its various tributaries define the drainage patterns of this eastern Montana landscape, where the terrain rises toward the southern boundary at Jack Creek Divide. The land is marked by significant elevations like Gravel Hill and Dug Long Hill, which overlook a network of seasonal watercourses including Horse Cr, Johnson Cr, and Prat Cr. In the eastern portion of the quadrangle, Pine Hill Reservoir provides a concentrated water source in an otherwise arid environment. This 2020 survey demonstrates the enduring ranching and rural character of Custer County, where access is maintained via routes such as Tongue River Rd and RD 538. The map preserves the township and range survey lines that have organized these open range lands for over a century.
