The Cockscomb rises as a prominent geological spine along the western edge of this terrain, marking a dramatic change in the landscape where Cottonwood Canyon Rd follows the base of the ridge. This area of Kane County is defined by its deep drainage systems and high, flat plateaus, including Horse Flat and Long Flat. These elevated benches are separated by complex networks of canyons such as Tommy Canyon and Long Flat Canyon, which funnel water into Wahweap Cr and Tommy Smith Cr. The southern portion of the map shows the transition into Coyote Canyon, where the Coyote Cr drainage originates near Coyote Point. This survey captures the remote character of the Utah desert, where named landmarks like Jack Riggs Bench and the descriptively titled Cads Crotch indicate a history of ranching and exploration across these broken canyonlands.
