The Green River carves a deep, winding path through this desert landscape, forming the boundary between Canyonlands National Park and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The river’s meanders define distinctive alluvial features known as bottoms, including Fort Bottom, Potato Bottom, and Queen Ann Bottom, which provided vital access points in an otherwise vertical environment. These lowlands are hemmed in by massive formations such as the Orange Cliffs and Bighorn Mesa.
