Hotlum and Carrick sit at the base of the northeastern volcanic slopes where the high Cascades meet the valley floor. This 2015 U.S. Geological Survey representation of Siskiyou County shows a landscape defined by dramatic geological features, including the prominent Black Butte and the Cinder Cone to the north. These landmarks rise sharply above the Shasta National Forest, while the drainage of Diller Canyon cuts through the higher elevations toward the glacial meltwaters of Whitney Cr and Bolam Cr.
