South Fork Clearwater River carves a deep valley through this portion of the Nez Perce National Forest, serving as the primary drainage for a network of steep ridges and high-altitude meadows. The geography is defined by prominent elevations such as Cougar Mtn in the north and the expansive Blue Ridge and Rainbold Ridge to the south. These ridges are separated by numerous seasonal and perennial watercourses including Huddleson Cr, Wing Cr, and Twentymile Cr, which feed into the river system below.
