Hungry Ridge dominates this portion of the Nez Perce National Forest, where a network of forest development roads provides access to the high elevations and creek drainages south of the South Fork Clearwater River. The landscape is defined by its deep drainages and named meadows, including Earthquake Meadows near the northern boundary and Buck Meadows to the south. A notable point of human infrastructure is the Hungry Ridge Ranch Airport, situated on a relatively level stretch of the ridge before it drops into the Deer Creek and Mill Creek valleys. The drainage patterns are intricate, with seasonal and perennial waters such as Dry Gulch and Jungle Creek feeding the larger river system. To the east, Quartz Ridge and Blue Ridge form high boundaries, while several Forest Service routes like Nat For Dev Rd 451 wind through the timbered slopes.
