Newberry Volcano dominates the central landscape of this high desert region within the Deschutes National Forest. This volcanic terrain is characterized by numerous volcanic cones and ridges, including Youtlkut Butte in the northwest and the cluster of Crater Buttes to the southwest. The geography is defined by its eruptive history, with the eastern portion featuring the namesake Indian Butte and the prominent Sugar Pine Ridge along the boundary between Deschutes and Lake counties.
