Pinetop-Lakeside serves as the gateway to the high-country landscape of the Sitgreaves National Forest, where the transition from settlement to wilderness is clearly defined by a network of forest roads and canyons. The northern portion of the map is dominated by the established communities of Pinetop and Hondah, along with the recreational grounds of the Pinetop Country Club. These areas stand in contrast to the more remote southern terrain, characterized by deep natural features like Black Canyon and Post Office Canyon.
