Fort Indiantown Gap dominates the central landscape of this 2016 survey, where military infrastructure meets the steep ridges of Blue Mountain and Second Mountain. The installation includes the Muir Army Airfield, Marquette Lake, and a network of training grounds tucked between the mountains and the valley floor. To the north, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail traverses the high ground, crossing Swatara Gap where Swatara Creek cuts through the ridges near the settlement of Inwood.
