About this map

The northwest corner of the Yomba Indian Reservation meets the eastern fringes of the Toiyabe National Forest in this 1980s topographic study of the Nevada desert. This arid landscape is dominated by the broad expanse of the Ione Valley, where drainage patterns like Ione Wash and Antelope Wash illustrate the complex water management of the Great Basin. While the terrain is largely defined by its natural contours, the presence of a lone Well and several unimproved 4 WD tracks speaks to the persistent human attempts to navigate and utilize this remote interior. The map provides a detailed look at the section lines and township boundaries, including the intersection of Township 11 North and 10 North, which served as critical points for land surveyors and ranching interests in the late twentieth century.
