Irish Mountain and Pillar Peak anchor this high-elevation landscape along the boundary of Deschutes National Forest and Willamette National Forest. The 2017 survey reveals a complex alpine hydrology characterized by dozens of small lakes, such as Blaze Lake, Jezebel Lake, and Phantom Lake, many of which sit in high cirques or basins. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail traverses the center of the map north-to-south, marking the spine of the Cascade Range. This era of the forest is defined by its recreational infrastructure, showing a transition from traditional trails like Crossing Way to modern seasonal routes including the Taylor Burn Snowmobile trail and the Metolius-Windigo route. To the south, volcanic features like Charlton Butte and Lemish Butte rise above the Clover Meadow area, while the eastern edge includes the slopes of Cultus Mtn.
