The map documents the Yellowstone Park Forest Reservation, a precursor to today's protected wilderness, revealing a territory defined by peaks like Ishawooa Cone and the broad Ishawooa Mesa. Of particular interest to mining historians is the Stinkingwater Mining Region near Needle Mt. and Crater Mt., where the headwaters of the Shoshone River and the North Fork Stinkingwater River emerge from the high ridges. These labels preserve the early nomenclature of the region, including the original name for the Shoshone River system. Geographer A.H.
