Islandton stands as the central settlement in this South Carolina landscape, situated where the Lodge Hwy and Snyder Hwy converge near the Hampton County line. The terrain is defined by a complex network of wetlands and watercourses, including the wide drainage of Moselle Swamp and the path of the Salkehatchie River as it winds along the southwestern boundary. Small cemeteries such as Cross Swamp Cem, Rice Path Cem, and Peniel Cem are scattered throughout the countryside, often located near local road junctions or along the edges of the numerous swamps like Willow Swamp and Cross Swamp. This drainage pattern reflects the traditional Lowcountry landscape, where agricultural land is carved from the drier ground between the Ricepatch Cr and the Little Salkehatchie River.
