Isle Au Haut occupies the eastern portion of this coastal survey, where the rugged shoreline is protected by the expansive Acadia National Park. The landscape is a network of trails and coves, with Long Pond situated inland and numerous paths like the Median Ridge Trl and Duck Harbor Tri traversing the granite heights. Small islands such as Kimball Island, Merchant Island, and Harbor Island dot the surrounding waters of East Penobscot Bay and Merchant Row. Local history is preserved in several small burial grounds, including Turners Cem and the Duck Harbor Cem. The intricate coastline is defined by features like Moores Harbor and the narrow Isle Au Haut Thorofare, reflecting a maritime environment where transport was historically dictated by the tides and sheltered harbors.
