Colville National Forest dominates this section of the Kettle River Range, where the landscape is defined by steep drainages and prominent peaks. The high ground is anchored by Jackknife Mtn, home to the Jackknife Mountain Lookout, while other summits like Coyote Mtn, Graves Mtn, and the distinctive Twin Sisters create a complex topography of ridges and canyons. Water moves through the terrain via several major forks, including N Fork Deadman Cr and S Fork Boulder Cr, with Emerald Lake providing a rare still-water feature in the southeast. Historical access is represented by Deadman Creek Rd and Nat For Dev Rd 363, which follow the natural contours of the valley floors to connect the high elevations of Alligator Ridge and the dramatic Hoodoo Canyon.
