Johnson Ranch and Five Mile Ranch anchor this portion of Albany County, where the high plains are defined by an intricate network of seasonal drainages and cattle country infrastructure. The landscape is carved by several major creek systems including Antelope Cr, Lone Tree Cr, and Sand Cr, which support the ranching operations that have long characterized the region. Man-made water management is evident through the presence of Lone Tree Reservoir and Sportsman Reservoir, essential features in this semi-arid environment. To the south, residential development begins to appear along the Boulder Ridge Estates Rd corridor, where a series of lettered roads such as Road A and Road B suggest a transition from large-scale ranching toward smaller rural tracts near the foot of the ridge.
