The North Fork Clearwater River and the Black Canyon River converge in this high-elevation drainage of the Clearwater National Forest. The 1994 survey, revised from earlier aerial photography, details the administrative and industrial infrastructure managed by the Pierce Ranger District, including the Cold Springs Work Center and the Kelly Forks Work Center. Steep drainages like Bacon Creek, July Creek, and Fourth of July Creek feed into the central river system from surrounding peaks such as Junction Mtn and Bear Butte. Evidence of forest management and seasonal occupancy is visible through the placement of an Industrial Camp and a Lookout Electronic Site, providing a clear record of how this remote Idaho landscape was utilized and monitored in the late 20th century.
