The unincorporated community of Kenton serves as the central hub of this northern Michigan landscape, situated where M-288 meets the East Branch Ontonagon River. Much of the area is protected within the Ottawa National Forest, characterized by a complex network of forest service roads and water bodies. Significant topographic landmarks include The Bluff and a series of cascades along the Jumbo River, notably Upper East Jumbo River Falls and Middle East Jumbo River Falls.
