About this map

Kenton serves as the primary hub for this remote section of the Ottawa National Forest, where the settlement and its adjacent Kenton Cem sit along the path of the Bessemer Snowmobile #8 Trl. The landscape is defined by the complex hydrography of the Ontonagon Wild and Scenic River and its numerous tributaries, including the Jumbo River and the West Branch Jumbo River. To the south, the settlement of Cottenham lies near the shores of Cottenham Lake, tucked away in an area dense with named water bodies such as Grosse Lake and Bela Lake. This region of the Upper Peninsula is characterized by steep elevation changes, marked by features like The Bluff and a series of river cascades including Dumpy Falls and Upper East Jumbo River Falls, which reveal the wild and undeveloped nature of the backcountry during the 2020s.
