Gold Mtn and Mt Marr dominate the high ridges of this coastal section of the Tongass National Forest, where steep timbered slopes drop directly into the cold waters of the Clarence Strait. The shoreline is heavily indented by small, protected inlets like Smugglers Cove and Bond Bay, which have long served as refuge for mariners navigating the Alexander Archipelago. These waters are punctuated by hazards and landmarks such as Bittersweet Rock and the scattered Tatoosh Islands. The landscape is largely undeveloped, defined by its complex maritime topography and narrow drainages like Falls Cr that descend from the peaks toward the tidal flats and points including Helm Point and Mike Point. This cartographic survey provides a detailed view of the forest boundary and the intricate interplay between the massive peaks and the maze of islands such as Thomas Island and Trunk Island.
