Keystone and Donlan anchor this mountain landscape along the border of Mineral and Sanders counties. The topography is dominated by the Coeur d'Alene Mountains and the winding course of the Clark Fork river, which cuts through the northern portion of the map near Donlan Flats. This terrain, much of it contained within the Lolo National Forest, features significant elevation changes from the river valley up to Keystone Peak and Combest Peak. A network of mountain roads such as Keystone Rd and Pardee Creek Rd provides access to the numerous gulches and draws that define the local drainage systems, including Slowey Gulch and Pack Gulch. The map illustrates a landscape shaped by both its natural hydrology and the forest service infrastructure required to navigate this portion of Western Montana.
