Kim anchors the northern edge of this high plains landscape, situated along highway 160. The town's infrastructure in the late 1970s is marked by Water Tanks and a Radio Tower, while the local Cem serves as a key genealogical marker for the community. South of the settlement, the terrain drops dramatically into the drainage basins of the Tecolote Mesa, where the land is carved by numerous intermittent watercourses including Saltillo Creek and Tecolote Creek.

Evidence of historical activity is found further south near the confluence of West Carrizo Creek and Baldy Canyon. Here, the Troy Cem and the Troy Gem label suggest the site of a former community or landmark now separated from the modern center at Kim. The map also records several Gravel Pits and numerous Springs, indicating the vital role of water and local materials in this arid ranching environment.
