Rhode Island State College sits at the northern edge of this coastal landscape, which was surveyed just as the United States entered the second World War. The terrain transitions from the high ground of Mt Pleasant and Tefft Hill down to the sprawling wetlands of the Great Swamp Fight Site. This area is defined by its complex hydrology, dominated by Worden Pond and a network of smaller kettle ponds like Thirty Acre Pond and Trustom Pond.
