Challis National Forest encompasses this high-elevation Idaho landscape, defined by a series of alpine lakes and dramatic peaks. The central drainage is anchored by the Knapp Lakes and the headwaters of Knapp Creek, which flow through the heart of the quadrangle. To the east, Mt Loening and Cabin Creek Peak rise above the surrounding basins, marking significant high points in the Salmon River Mountains. The map illustrates a primitive wilderness character, where the primary routes are forest service roads and trails rather than established towns.
