The Flathead River flows prominently through this section of the Lolo National Forest, where the small settlement of Knowles sits along its northern bank. The topography is defined by the steep elevation gains toward Siegel Mtn and Siegel Pass in the south, while the northern reaches are carved by Little Money Cr and Knowles Creek. Historical land use in this part of Sanders County is reflected in the network of forest roads such as the Ninemile-Siegle Rd and the Dixon 1000.
