Flathead River frontage dominates this mid-1980s landscape at the boundary of the Flathead Indian Reservation and Lolo National Forest. The Burlington Northern railroad corridor tracks the southern bank of the river through the small settlement of Knowles. To the south, the terrain rises sharply toward Siegel Mountain and Siegel Pass, where numerous drainage systems like Seepay Creek and Wilson Creek carve through the timberland.
