1988 Map of Koip Peak

About this map

Mona Pass Mine Shaft and several Mine Shafts characterize the high-altitude industrial exploration along the border of Yosemite National Park and Ansel Adams Wilderness. This late-twentieth-century survey documents a landscape of dramatic vertical relief where extraction efforts like the Prospect Adit sit adjacent to pristine alpine water bodies such as Summit Lake and Mona Lake. A sophisticated network of high-country routes including the Parker Pass Trail and Alger Lakes Trail facilitates movement through these granite peaks. The convergence of the Kuna Crest and Koip Crest creates a natural divide, with drainage flowing toward Walker Lake and the hydroelectric reservoirs of Gem Lake and Agnew Lake to the southeast. The map clearly delineates the administrative boundaries of Inyo National Forest and the county line between Mono and Tuolumne.
