Koshkonong serves as the primary rail-side settlement in this Ozark borderland during the mid-1980s, situated along the Burlington Northern line. The landscape is defined by a dense network of hollows and seasonal drainages, including Red Ranch Hollow and Wet Hollow, which flow toward the more substantial Big Apple Creek and English Creek. To the southeast, the terrain shifts into the karst-influenced topography of Grand Gulf State Park, a notable geological feature near the state line.
