About this map

The Bering Land Bridge National Preserve encompasses the majority of this landscape, protecting a vast stretch of the Seward Peninsula where the ancient land bridge once connected continents. The drainage of the N Fork Serpentine River meanders across the terrain, joined by the smaller tributary of Rock Cr as it flows toward the main Serpentine River in the southwest. This area is characterized by a complex network of thermokarst lakes and tundra wetlands typical of the Arctic coastal plain. The absence of roads or permanent settlements highlights the wilderness character of the region, which remains largely defined by its natural hydrology and the federal conservation boundaries established to protect its unique geological and archaeological heritage.
