Lake Ada dominates the center of this glacial landscape in north-central Minnesota, where complex lake chains and wetlands define the regional geography. The small settlement of Pontoria sits at the northern edge of the sheet near Ponto Lake, serving as a focal point for the surrounding rural area along State 84 NW. This road corridor follows a series of lakes south, including Smiley Lake and Deadman Lake, while the eastern portion of the quadrangle is defined by more remote water bodies such as Hay Lake and Stony Lake.
