Lake Minnewaska dominates the northern portion of this landscape, its shoreline defined by Lawrence Point and Swenson Point. The surrounding terrain in Pope County is a complex glacial mosaic of wetlands and small water bodies, including Nelson Lake, Helle Lake, and Steenerson Lake. This topography is interrupted in the southwest by the prominent rise of Blue Mounds, which stands apart from the lower-lying lake basins of Edwards Lake and Hoff Lake.
