Glacial prairie potholes and protected wetlands dominate this McLean County landscape, defined by the extensive Lake Nettie National Wildlife Refuge and Snake Creek National Wildlife Refuge. The map reveals a rural settlement pattern established in the townships of Malcolm and Turtle Lake during the mid-20th century. Local social hubs are clearly visible, including the Community Hall near the north end of Lake Nettie and several isolated educational sites like School No 1 and School No 6.

Religious and family history is preserved through the identification of the Bethel Ch and its adjacent Bethel Cem in the northwest, along with the Darling Cem further east. The terrain is a complex network of water bodies, from Crooked Lake to the seasonal waters of Nygaard Slough and Hanson Slough. This survey was conducted as part of a Department of the Interior program focused on the development of the Missouri River Basin.
