Lake of the Falls and the surrounding Iron County woodlands define this landscape of interconnected waterways. The central hydrographic system is dominated by the Turtle River, which feeds into the First Black Lake, Second Black Lake, and Third Black Lake complex before reaching the expansive Turtle Flambeau Flowage at the southern edge. The small settlement of Carter sits near the eastern boundary, positioned along the Us-51 corridor, which serves as the primary north-south artery through the region.
