Malheur National Forest encompasses much of this high-desert terrain in Harney County, where the Silvies River cuts through the deep profile of Silvies Canyon. The landscape is defined by a network of water management features and seasonal draws, including the Larraneta Reservoir, Baker Reservoir, and the curiously named C 7 Reservoir. These water sources, along with Granite Spring and Red Lick Spring, historically supported ranching and forest operations in an arid environment.
