The Rio Grande carves a deep, sinuous path through the high desert of West Texas, forming the international boundary between the United States and Mexico. Located at a sharp bend in the river, the settlement of Langtry serves as the focal point of this arid landscape, flanked by a network of dramatic drainage features including Pump Canyon and Mile Canyon. Much of the riverfront and southern portion of the sheet is protected within the Amistad National Recreation Area, where the rugged topography meets the international border.
