Gay lies at the intersection of several township boundaries in this high-altitude section of Southeast Idaho, where the borders of Bingham, Caribou, and Bannock counties converge. The landscape is defined by its water sources and sharp relief, anchored by Lincoln Peak and the intricate drainage systems of Lincoln Corral Canyon and Bakers Canyon. The Portneuf River flows through the eastern portion of the quadrangle, fed by numerous named water sources such as Bronco Spring and Lincoln Peak Spring.
