The Saint Maries River winds through this timber-heavy landscape in northern Idaho, passing through a corridor that includes the small settlements of Cardwell and Rover. The area is defined by the high elevations of Lindstrom Peak and Peterson Point, with much of the southern portion of the quadrangle falling within the protected boundaries of the St. Joe National Forest. This modern topo survey reveals a dense network of forest access and resource roads, such as Peterson Lookout Rd and Santa Marie Woods Loop Dr, which snake through the drainages of Alder Cr and Choutson Cr. The layout of these roads and the small clusters of homes at Lotus and Alder Creek reflect a landscape still heavily influenced by the forestry industry and public land management in Benewah County.
