About this map

The Spokane River flows through the center of this landscape, marking the boundary between Stevens and Lincoln counties. Much of the northern riverbank is protected within the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, where the rugged geography is defined by prominent elevations like Sherwood Mtn. To the south, the terrain rises toward Bald Ridge, dissected by a series of deep drainages including Tamarack Canyon and Smeltzer Canyon. These canyons and the winding course of Spring Creek illustrate a remote region shaped by seasonal water and sharp elevation changes. The presence of numerous Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) routes, such as BIA Hwy 31 and BIA Hwy 16, reflects the modern infrastructure supporting local access through these complex bluffs and valley floors.
