The eastern portion of the quadrangle is dominated by the corridor of the East Fork Des Moines River, which creates a riparian break in the straight-line road network. Local history and genealogy are anchored by features like Hands Grove Township Cem and Mount Calvary Cem, while the small settlement of Arnold sits to the south of Livermore. The hydrology of the area is further characterized by smaller tributaries like Trulner Cr and the aptly named Bloody Run, which cut across the surveyed section lines.
