Big Coulee Creek and its many winding tributaries define the hydrology of this Sweet Grass County landscape. The drainages of South Fork Big Coulee Creek and Sixshooter Creek suggest a highly dissected terrain, where seasonal water flow has carved deep coulees into the Montana plains. Water management in this semi-arid environment is evidenced by the presence of Weppler Number 1 Dam and Weppler Number 2 Dam along the northern reaches of the survey. Aside from these small-scale infrastructure markers, the area remains sparsely developed, characterized by isolated landmarks like Knob Hill. Remote transport is facilitated by few arterial routes such as S Barber Rd and Sweetgrass 2 Rd, which connect the scattered ranching or agricultural operations typical of this portion of the Big Coulee drainage.
