The convergence of Golden Valley, Stillwater, and Sweet Grass counties defines this high plains landscape in southern Montana. The terrain is characterized by a series of branching drainages that flow eastward toward Big Coulee Cr, including the N Fork Big Coulee Cr and the S Fork Big Coulee Cr. These waterways cut through a series of ridges and upland flats, most notably near the prominent elevation of Knob Hill in the southwestern portion of the map.
