Kennedy Meadows sits at a transition point where the high Sierra terrain meets the road networks of Tulare County. This area, largely defined by the boundary between the Sequoia National Forest and Inyo National Forest, shows a landscape dominated by high-elevation meadows and deep drainages. The Kern Wild and Scenic River flows through the northwest corner, protected within a corridor that lacks modern road access.

Travel through this area is primarily defined by historic paths and forest access routes. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trl and Wildrose Trl navigate the ridges and meadows, while Ball Meadow and Wildrose Meadows offer seasonal grazing and water sources. Local transit is concentrated in the south around the Kennedy Meadows settlement, where Sherman Pass Rd and Kennedy Meadow Rd provide the only significant vehicle access into this part of the Sierra Nevada.
