Hydrological patterns and rural corridors define this portion of Highlands and DeSoto counties. The landscape is characterized by an extensive network of wetlands and seasonal water bodies typical of the Florida interior, most notably around Split Lake in the west. This 2024 survey documents the modern land divisions and township grids, including t37s r27e and t38s r28e, which dictate the alignment of rural infrastructure. Transportation is limited to a few established tracks and thoroughfares, such as Co Line Rd and Footman Trl, which provide access through the marshy terrain and serve as the primary markers of human movement in an area otherwise dominated by the natural drainage patterns of the Florida peninsula.
