The Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge dominates this section of Northwest Montana, preserving a diverse landscape of wetlands and forests as they appeared in 2017. This area is defined by the complex hydrology of the Pleasant Valley Cr drainage and the Flathead County Waterfowl Production Area, where the terrain transitions from the open water of Lynch Lake and Island Lake to the dense timber of the Kootenai National Forest.
