Madison and Olpe anchor this 2018 topographic survey of the eastern Kansas plains. The landscape is defined by the drainage network of the Verdigris River, including the N Br Verdigris River and S Br Verdigris River. This hydrologic system creates a distinct pattern of meandering stream beds and creek valleys, such as Rock Creek and Moon Branch, which break up the geometric grid of the township and range survey system.
