Mammoth Mountain and the high ridges of the Sierra Nevada define this section of the Inyo National Forest at the boundary of Mono and Madera counties. The landscape is marked by unique geological formations, from the volcanic features at Earthquake Dome and Inyo Crater Lakes to the distinct basalt columns of Devils Postpile National Monument. The Middle Fork San Joaquin River flows through the western portion of the sheet, joined by Minaret Cr near Minaret Falls, while the eastern slopes drain via Dry Cr and Mammoth Cr.
